The Celebration was an interesting evening combining several cultures and personal convictions regarding one’s Biblical convictions. Our Amish friends joined us for a service with which they conducted. The group included Mark and Ruby, their seven children, three in-laws and two grandchildren. The evening included singing (beautiful four part harmony) and a sermon preached by Mark. Much of his teaching emphasized salvation through Jesus as both Savior and Lord. Included he shared stories about some of the early martyrs of the faith. The stories were very inspiring.
Due to the separatist nature of their convictions, ecumenical services are not permitted. So after saying a few words to the ladies and children about an issue that had to be addressed and reading from Romans 12, the evening was theirs. There was not the traditional call to the cross and the prayer requests were submitted differently.
